Announcing Algorythmic

algorythmic SEO & AI search consulting by Lily Ray

After 16 years of agency and in-house SEO work, I am so excited to announce the launch of my SEO and AI search consultancy, Algorythmic.

I am also excited to be able to continue my work with Amsive as VP of SEO & AI Search. For clients and projects where I believe my SEO/AEO team at Amsive is a better fit for the engagement, I will recommend working with Amsive, where I still oversee all SEO/AEO projects and work with the team day-to-day.

Through Algorythmic, I will be selectively taking on 1:1 client projects that are a good fit for my skills and where I believe I can add value. I will also offer hourly consulting, training, workshops, and speaking about all things SEO and AI Search.

Why the name ‘Algorythmic’?

I first heard the play on words combining ‘algorithm’ and ‘rhythm’ back in 2019, when my SEO teammates at the time, Paul Van Hevel and Joe Woll, created a comical, made-up deli called “The Sub-Domain,” where all menu options were actually puns for people and topics in the SEO space.

You can still check out the full menu – it is still hilarious to this day, and contains all kinds of jokes that only SEO nerds would appreciate.

Within our fictional Sub-Domain deli, the resident band was called the Algo-Rhythms. Once I heard the name, I knew it was the perfect play on words that combines both of my passions perfectly: search algorithms, and rhythm.

Aside from being obsessed with search algorithms and hyper-focused on Google algorithm updates, the guiding force in my life since I was a kid has been rhythm.

I first fell in love with rhythm, dancing, and drumming when I was 6 years old and my mom took me to a drum circle dance party. (You can see evidence of this in the first photo shown above.) I fell in love with the drums that day and resolved to be a drummer for the rest of my life.

That actually ended up happening – throughout my adolescence, I played in a number of rock bands throughout San Francisco and around the Bay Area that ended up becoming pretty successful locally, signing onto two record labels, and frequently gigging around San Francisco’s best venues and festivals. You can learn more about my drummer days here and also about my most successful band, Two Seconds.

When I got older and moved to New York City, I played in bands for a while. But drumming is much less of a ‘portable’ activity in crowded New York City compared to spacious California, so after falling in love with electronic music in 2011, I channeled my love of rhythm into a new hobby: DJing. I am passionate about DJing house, techno, and downtempo music, and I still DJ in NYC and around the world to this day.

Why no “H”in before the “Y” in “Algorythmic’?

The lack of an ‘h’ before the ‘y’ in ‘Algorythmic’ is not an accident (to fully spell out ‘rhythm’); I simply think the word ‘Algorythmic’ looks better without the h.
