SEO That Stands the Test of Time
I believe the best SEO strategies are the ones that search engines could never penalize – because they’re built on genuine expertise, trust, and value. Not hacks or shortcuts.
Breaking the Cycle
The SEO industry has long been caught in a familiar pattern: practitioners discover a new tactic, it spreads across the industry, everyone scales it aggressively, and search engines inevitably crack down. The cycle repeats – new loophole, mass adoption, algorithmic correction – leaving brands that relied on those shortcuts scrambling to recover.

Like many experienced SEOs, I learned about this the hard way. In 2012, the company I worked for was affected heavily by Google’s Penguin update, and I was responsible. I was buying links off of Black Hat World – because at the time, it worked incredibly well – without even knowing this went against Google’s guidelines.
I woke up to the news of the Google Penguin update in August of 2012, which destroyed all of our company’s organic rankings and traffic overnight. I learned the hard way what taking shortcuts can do to your SEO performance, and resolved to never put a company in this situation again.
Since that turning point, I’ve taken a fundamentally different approach to SEO. Rather than chasing the latest exploit or building strategies around tactics that have an expiration date, I focus on what search engines are actually trying to reward: genuinely helpful content created by real experts for real audiences.
Sustainable Growth Over Quick Wins
Every brand faces a choice in how they approach search visibility. Some pursue aggressive, high-risk tactics: mass-produced AI content, excessive self-promotional listicles, prompt injection, link schemes, exploiting third-party domains, or gaming algorithm signals. These approaches might deliver short-term gains, but they come with a ticking clock. When the next algorithm or model update arrives, brands built on these foundations often face devastating losses. (See: the Helpful Content Update as an example!)
I choose a different path. My strategies are designed to compound over time, not collapse under scrutiny. That means investing in content quality, building authentic authority, and creating digital assets that serve users so well that search engines have every reason to surface them – no matter how the algorithms evolve.
Built on E-E-A-T
Experience, Expertise, Authoritativeness, and Trustworthiness represent the foundation of how I approach every engagement. I help brands demonstrate who their experts are and why they should be trusted. I ensure content reflects genuine first-hand experience and deep subject matter knowledge. I focus on original insights and perspectives that stand out in a sea of homogeneous, AI-generated content.
This isn’t about checking boxes on a quality rater checklist. It’s about building a brand presence that radiates credibility through original research, transparent authorship, meaningful thought leadership, and engaging content that only your organization could create. When E-E-A-T is embedded into the fabric of your digital strategy, your visibility becomes resilient to algorithmic shifts because you’re doing exactly what search engines want to reward.
Evolving With AI Search
The rise of AI-powered answer engines – from Google’s AI Overviews and AI Mode to ChatGPT, Perplexity, and Gemini – hasn’t made SEO any less important. Answer Engine Optimization (AEO) is the natural evolution of the same principles that have always driven sustainable search performance.
AI models are trained on the open web and retrieve top-ranking search results in real time. LLMs learn to recognize authoritative, well-structured, expert-driven content. Brands that have invested in genuine authority and topical depth are the ones being cited and recommended by AI systems. The same qualities that earn trust from human readers earn trust from large language models. My approach to AEO focuses on building the kind of expertise and brand presence that AI systems want to reference – not on trying to game them.
Quality Over Quantity
AI tools have made it trivial to produce massive volumes of content, and I believe that the brands that will ultimately stand out are the ones that publish less… but publish better. I don’t measure success by how many pages my clients create. I measure it by the authority, engagement, and conversions each piece of content drives, the problems it solves, and the visibility it earns over time.
Every piece of content should reflect your brand’s unique expertise and perspective. Original data, proprietary insights, first-hand experience, and informed points of view – these are the assets search engines can’t commoditize and competitors can’t replicate. I help brands identify and amplify what makes them uniquely authoritative.
The Algorythmic Difference
My philosophy comes down to this: invest in strategies that search engines could never take away from you. Build a strong brand. Publish genuine expertise. Earn trust through transparency. Be omnipresent. Create content for humans that also satisfies algorithms. Not the other way around.
The SEO landscape will keep evolving. Algorithms will change. Models will update. New platforms will emerge. But the brands that thrive through every shift are the ones who never depended on loopholes in the first place. That’s the kind of SEO I practice, and that’s the kind of growth I help my clients achieve.
